We’re just a week away from Mothers’ Day. Most all of us have received almost all the good teachings and life lessons in our lives from our Mothers — whether or not we accepted them when she gave them to us. It was funny to me that the older I got, the smarter my Mother got. It took me a while to understand that it wasn’t that she got smarter, I got smarter listening to her. We didn’t have much financially when I was young. After the divorce of my parents, my Mother married an amazing south Louisiana true gentleman. He was older than she and had sold a very successful company. They traveled a lot, relaxed a lot, and she enjoyed being without all those pressures — especially the financial ones — that she had dealt with for so many years. I of course looked down my nose at her when they married because that’s what we had done for years watching other successful people. It was only later I discovered my Mom had not changed at all — she just now had the ability to take it easy, at least easier than before, and had gained a new and different life perspective.
Late in her life after my step father had passed away, we had a conversation one day about her personal finances. In that conversation she gave me the perfect perspective about those with financial success, (one she had adopted after marrying my step father) and a perspective I adopted then and have kept from that day forward: “Having money is not everything. But having money makes almost everything just a little bit nicer.” Jealousy of others’ success was not part of that “little bit nicer.”
There are quite a few really good sayings, bits of advice, and shared perspectives from very wise people who probably gained those sayings, advice, and perspective from living very close to (and spending quite a bit of time walking down) the road of hard knocks. On this Sunday before Mothers’ Day, I thought there would be a few that would be good to share: advice, perspective, and a few sayings. If you’re like me, you’ll probably copy these and paste them in that notebook you’ve used to fill up with goodies of advice and thoughts of others through the years.
I heard a very wise man one day say, “There are no new inventions, discoveries, or quotes on Earth. They are all just re-processed.” That may or may not be true. The following, however, I promise are NOT new. Enjoy them as you “re-process” them.
Philosophy
As we grow older, and hence wiser (wisdom), we slowly realize that:
Whether we wear a $300 or $30 watch – – – they both tell the same time.
Whether we carry a $300 or $30 wallet/handbag – – – the amount of
money inside is the same.
Whether we drink a bottle of $300 or $30 or $3 wine – – – the hangover
is the same.
Whether the house we live in is 300 or 3,000 or 30,000 sq. ft. – – –
the loneliness is the same.
And we realize our true inner happiness does not come from the
material things of this world.
Whether we fly first or economy class, if the plane goes down – – – we
go down with it.
Whether we fly first or economy class, if the plane reaches its
destination – – – everyone arrives at the same time.
We should realize that when we have mates, buddies and old friends,
brothers and sisters, with whom we can chat, laugh, talk, sing, talk
about north- south-east-west or heaven and earth — that is true
happiness.
Six Undeniable Facts of Life
1. Don’t educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy,
so when they grow up they will know the value of things, not the
price.
2. Best wise words: “Eat your food as your medicines. Otherwise you
have to eat medicines as your food.”
3. The one who loves you will never leave you because, even if there
are 100 reasons to give up, he or she will find one reason to hold on.
4. There is a big difference between a human being and being human.
Only a few folks really understand that.
5. You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In
between, you have to manage.
6. If you just want to walk fast, walk alone; but, if you want to walk
far, walk together.
Six Best Doctors in the World

3. Exercise
4. Diet
5. Self Confidence
