There’s not just one: there’s actually three.
What/who are they? You know all three very well. And they are so big, so dominant in our World today, they suck all the oxygen out of the air in every room we ever walk into. Some of us may be OK with 1 of the 3. But most Americans dislike all three.
The U.S. Government
This is the “Big Kahuna” of gorillas. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the U.S. Government was the institution that working together with American citizens made the U.S. the greatest nation in World history. American citizens have not changed, but the government has. It morphed into a living, breathing, and eating organism that gobbles up the resources of every one and every entity it can. It is self-sustaining — or so they tell us. It actually can live only if Americans continue to stoke its ravenous appetite with the only thing it can digest: tax dollars. Its “handlers” — those in Congress — live their lives with one simple objective: to find as much food as their resident gorilla needs as quickly as possible. As the gorilla grows, so does the demand for food. (You know where this thought goes from here)
Is it any wonder that almost all Americans have utter disdain for the American government and most of those who work in it? No longer does it serve the Nation. It simply serves those who are a part of it. Those are the ones who have devised through the years the methodology that creates the solution to the hunger of the beast.
Every American knows that tax dollars sent to D.C. are mostly wasted in boondoggle projects, special interest “investments” and loans, and political, with just enough left to do something to make taxpayers feel good about turning over the dollars for which they work so hard to feed the beast. Is it any wonder that the approval rating for Congress hovers around the decade mark? Americans despise the U.S. government, the way it operates, and the way it ignores those its members all pledged to work for when elected.
The NFL
Today and tomorrow NFL owners meet with some NFL players and representatives from the players’ union: the NFLPA. They are meeting to discuss the substance of the protests that have dominated the stories of NFL football games this season. Game outcomes so far in 2017 have been secondary to the question, “Who kneeled during the National Anthem?” Whether or not NFL owners feel that the stated cause for NFL player boycotts is legitimate and worthy, they find themselves in a box having to find a way to appease the players while trying not to alienate their fans. And the fans are pretty much walking away from the greatest and most profitable professional sport on Earth.
Options to this dilemma are few, and no matter which is chosen, there are land mines and booby traps to navigate through. No answer will make the angst of NFL fans go away. If you believe the player protest causes are worthy, you will probably be angry if NFL owners make any decision 
appearing to be anti-player. If you believe player protests are wrong and their actions denigrate the flag, the Anthem, and those who served (and still serve) in the military, you will probably be angry if the NFL owners do NOT stop these protests somehow. Someone loses no matter what if any actions are taken. No one will win.
Know who else loses in either scenario? NFL fans, corporate sponsors, and TICKET HOLDERS! Doesn’t anyone in the NFL — players, player reps, coaches, team management, the NFL office and staff — “anyone” — understand that Americans typically have no problem with protesting whatever cause they choose. Americans simply do not want it to happen during the National Anthem. What would be a better way to protest?
“If” Michael Jordan was still playing, he’d find a way: something like a huge rally for the Chicago Bulls at which several players will speak as would Michael. Michael would probably very easily spell out to fans the exact reasons for the protests and would offer solutions.
That’s the problem! NFL fans even today have no understanding of exactly what the protest is about.
The age of American confrontationalism has ended. Today’s youngsters would rather avoid any confrontation acting like nothing happened than enter the fray. So instead of counter protesting in the vast numbers seen at NFL games protesting the OTHER way, many NFL players simply do nothing and say nothing. That is NOT defined as a protest.
The Media
As never before those in the media on the Left have tilted the shift of Earth toward Jupiter! Saying it is out of hand is a gross understatement. Saying something like “The natives are restless,” would be more appropriate. Networks who are liberal have discarded the measures previously used to politically remain centrist because of the necessity to remain unbiased in reporting. The obvious Leftist news organizations stick close to Democrats while FOX News stays pretty close to the Right. And none care what Americans think about their political leanings.
The Media tilt for those on the Left is outrageously defiant and “in your face.” But there is much irony there. Most conservative news organizations maintain a much more middle-ground philosophy in reporting. But the Leftist media hacks scurry around all day and night to find dirt on President Trump and other conservatives. And there are no boundaries for their reporting and editorializing — often untruthfully. In the 80’s and 90’s, if a journalist created news stories that were not factual, they would be immediately fired. Not so today.
Have you ever wondered why networks like NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC and CNBC are so defiantly liberal? Why are they so consumed by their liberal tilt? It could be because of their overwhelming consuming obligation to “other” Leftists. Where does that obligation come from and why does it move the Left so far out there in their reporting? It could be because of this:
- ABC News executive producer Ian Cameron is married to Susan Rice, Obama’s former National Security Adviser.
- CBS President David Rhodes is the brother of Ben Rhodes, Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser for StrategicCommunications.
- ABC News correspondent Claire Shipman is married to former Whitehouse Press Secretary Jay Carney
- ABC News and Univision reporter Matthew Jaffe is married to Katie Hogan, Obama’s former Deputy Press Secretary
- ABC President Ben Sherwood is the brother of Obama’s former Special Adviser Elizabeth Sherwood
- CNN President Virginia Moseley is married to former HillaryClinton’s Deputy Secretary Tom Nides.
Summary
The three groups shared above are monsters at demanding and holding the attention of not just Americans, but of people from all over the Globe. In many cases the attention they demand from us prevents our scrutiny of other groups and issues that deserve more of our energies. Maybe that will change.
That is NOT, however, minimizing the value and importance of these three. Unless and until changes in these institutions bring honesty, integrity, and legitimate work within their individual specialties, Americans will continue to lose interest in each. Maybe that itself may be the objective of one or several of these, but I doubt it. All three are critical to the Nation — even football. And Americans want and deserve some continuity in each. I suspect the new guy in charge has not only some really good ideas for those changes, I’m certain he has at least one road-map for each to follow to get things straight. Just like that “big thing” he told reporters was about to break last week. It broke today. (more about that tomorrow)
