There is a seismic explosion in politics this week. For only the second time in American History, a sitting president decided not to run for a second term after campaigning for one. The first to do so was Lyndon Johnson. Sadly for Joe Biden, in the history of his presidency, there will certainly be a number of “firsts” for the Biden Administration when history begins to compare presidential administrations to Biden’s. I doubt Joe’s “firsts” will be laudable.
Obviously, there are a number of big stories from the week. Let’s pick the top ten and put them in “Bullet” format so you can catch up on any you missed. There are many more than ten. We’ll pick the loudest ones for you. And, remember: this entire period in American History is one for the record books!
Bullet Points
- Who would have predicted that the President would back out of his run for re-election and that his Vice President would immediately be anointed to take his spot in the Presidential election in 3.5 months? Those exact things happened this week. It began on Sunday, July 21. Biden’s withdrawal has been accompanied by a multitude of excuses for doing so. We may never know who pushed the “Go” button and exactly why. However, it was obvious to ALL Americans that President Biden was not in great shape — surely not the shape voters expect from a President running for re-election. What was the final reason for Democrats to make this change? For complete details, click on this link:
- Millions of Americans are fighting mad at the discovery that Biden’s cognitive decline was well-known and kept secret by those in his inner circle for several years. However, Americans are not stupid! It became so obvious that Biden was having serious mental issues and that, along with those, his memory was leaving him quickly. We may never know for sure what the proverbial straw was that instigated the sudden withdrawal from the race, but Americans have grown angrier by the week over the past months as they saw the obvious evidence of something being wrong with the President. What percentage of Americans “knew” Biden’s cognitive ability was in a bad place? For complete details, click on this link:
- Democrats immediately turned to Vice President Kamala Harris to take Joe’s campaign spot. In doing so, a number of issues immediately popped up. What about all the campaign dollars in Biden’s War Chest? Can those dollars simply go into the Kamala Harris Campaign? Reportedly, Biden had $200 million dollars just before he dropped out. It would be a shame for that to be refunded or used in some other way. “Experts” have weighed in daily since the Biden withdrawal. Though the answer to our question can be answered, ALL such answers right now are not certain. For complete details, click on this link:
- Many Republicans are not satisfied that Biden withdrew from the race but refused to resign from the Presidency. I’ve heard numerous GOP lawmakers state some version of this: “If Joe Biden is no longer able to campaign for the presidency, why would he still be able to serve as Commander in Chief? He needs to resign!” However, some experts are saying Republicans need to think that strategy through. Why? They say that a Biden resignation probably would not be good for the Republican Party. - The story of former President Trump’s attempted assassination shocked the entire World — even President Trump himself. One could tell his emotions were high, but his speech on the final night of the GOP Convention in Milwaukee was quite subdued. He was quick to make clear to all listening that God was the reason the would-be assassin did not kill him. Most people would never think about going back to Bethel, Pennsylvania, the site of the attempted assassination. Not Donald Trump! He’s going back to Bethel for another rally! - “Serpenthead” surfaced this week to warn Democrats not to get caught up in the uproar accompanying the announcement of Vice President Kamala Harris replacing President Biden at the top of the Democrat ticket. Better known as “James Carville,” “Serpenthead” warned Democrats to tone down their excitement about the first batch of polls released pitting Trump against Harris. As Democrats across the nation danced in glee about their new presidential candidate (Kamala is not “legally” the Democrat Candidate on the November ticket), Carville points out the first wave of excitement is ignoring most of the facts accompanying this rare and dramatic change in election players. “Emotions in election politics are most often over-hyped.” For complete details, click on this link:
- Although the Olympics in Paris have not yet started the competition, controversies are already sweeping through the Olympic Village. These participants are undoubtedly the most elite group of athletes on Earth. And their diets are critical to the successes that have brought them to the World’s most elite competitions. Reportedly, the food served to these athletes is far from being sufficient. Many of the items on the menus are unacceptable. And much of the meats served to the athletes are being served raw! - Lately, we’ve heard very little about the war between Russia and Ukraine. For months, stories about the war were a daily staple. Not only has the Russian aggression in their takeover bid of Ukraine, but other European countries are drafting plans for their own countrymen to quickly evacuate if and when Russian aggression in their countries is initiated. Which country has started mass evacuation planning? Do they know something no one else does? For complete details, click on this link:
- House Speaker Mike Johnson was asked about his thoughts about Democrats suddenly changing their presidential candidate without regard for the millions of Democrats who voted for President Biden in primaries. Under Democrats’ current plans, those Democrats will be deprived of their votes for the candidate of their choice. Can Democrats legally do that? And what about primary voters who have already cast their votes?
- Millions of Americans had read the book “Hillbilly Elegy” and/or seen the movie of the same name before Senator J.D. Vance became Donald Trump’s choice to be his Vice President running mate. (I had seen the movie months before I realized it was written by and about J.D. Vance!) Since Vance became the VP pick for Trump, his book cannot be kept on store shelves around the nation. Harper Collins — the book’s publisher — states that 650,000 copies have been sold since July 1! There’s more to the story. For complete details, click on this link:
