What you See is What you Get

Every American citizen saw front and center in President Trump’s message to the Congress exactly who is representing us in Washington, D.C.  In just one hour the President not only gave a speech, but on national television showed Americans just how divisive politics is today in the U.S.  I do not remember ever before seeing a Presidential Joint Session Address in which either party demonstrated its insolence or saw its members act so childish in the Hall that was built and has been maintained by the sacrifices of hundreds of thousands of Americans who have given their lives in blind support of the American ideal.   Though there was similar policy differences in that Chamber during the eight such messages delivered by President Obama during his administration, there was no such infantile actions on the part of those who disagreed fundamentally with his policies.  If you are represented by one or more of those legislators who stayed in their seats, refused to applaud, waved their arms in the negative thumbs down mode, and walked out immediately at the completion of the speech, you should not only be ashamed of their representation of you and your fellow citizens, but you should make certain to let them know of your shame.

I could spend an hour dissecting President Trump’s speech but will not do so.  All who really care either watched it live, have read it, or watched snippets of its bullet points.  The one certainty from his speech is that it replicated exactly what he promised to all those who voted for him last November.  How anyone could have a problem with that can only illustrate their inability to reason.

I made the mistake of surfing the morning network news shows to check reactions.  I expected the guns to be drawn and firing, but flipping channels what shocked the most was that none of the Alt-Left anchors watched the same speech I watched!  How any of those highly educated and professional journalists could have deduced what they stated about the President’s speech is shocking.  Why?  They do so for one of two reasons:  they either lack the ability to understand what the President is all about or they DO understand, but because of their Leftist leanings feel obligated to force their narrative and interpretation of all things political on their viewers and listeners.  Think about that:  if that is true, they honestly feel their viewers and listeners are too stupid to understand the President’s speech.  How arrogant!

The most memorable moment of the evening came as the President introduced the widow of Ryan Owens — the Navy Seal who was killed in a raid in Yemen last month.   President Trump introduced Carryn Owens to the joint session of Congress saying:

Seated beside Ivanka Trump, Carryn Owen looks up and mouths “I love you” to her dead husband during Pres. Trump’s tribute to the Navy Seal hero
Democrats Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Congressman Keith Ellison remained seated without any applause for the hero or his wife at her introduction

“We are blessed to be joined tonight by Carryn Owens, the widow of a U.S. Navy special operator, Senior Chief William ‘Ryan’ Owens.  Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero — battling against terrorism and securing our nation.  I just spoke to General [Jim] Mattis, who reconfirmed that, and I quote,  ‘Ryan was a part of a highly successful raid that generated large amounts of vital intelligence that will lead to many more victories in the future against our enemies.’ Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity.  For as the Bible teaches us, there is no greater act of love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. Ryan laid down his life for his friends, for his country and for our freedom — we will never forget him.

Most” of those in the Hall stood for several minutes amid thunderous applause in his honor. “Most” of the Hall included all but the Leftists who disregarded the substance of the moment who stayed in their seats, did not applaud, and many gave that thumbs down arm waving action.  Their actions dishonored not just Owens’ widow who stood with tears streaming down her face, but the entire nation of Americans who those in the Chamber swore to represent while they uphold and honor the Constitution and all it contains.  Ryan Owens gave his life in service to those people who spat on his sacrifice.  Do they not realize that America watched their disgraceful actions?  It is horrifying to me that there are actually elected lawmakers who feel those actions are not only all right, but in some sick way admirable.

The evening was one of identification:  identification of the “politi-crats” that live in D.C. that work “for” the government, and the Americans who work for the “people” who LIVE in D.C.  Each category of individuals was easily identifiable during the President’s address.  And while a part of me wanted me to stand and scream at the television, another part of me had me simply nod my head in understanding — understanding that what the Nation and others around the World were seeing is the depth of the abyss that American politics now lives in.  All reason and common sense so necessary to run the government of the greatest country on Earth has been callously tossed into that hole.  And about half of those in that hallowed Hall either do not see the multiple ironies of this or they see those ironies and do not care.  In either case the depravity of the Leftists in Congress has now been exposed to the World.

Example of my point:  Note in this picture below the Republicans on their side of the Hall are ALL standing and applauding Carryn Owens as the President pays tribute to her fallen husband.  That round of applause lasted two minutes — which unofficially sets an applause length record for all presidential addresses given to a joint session of Congress.  I close this blog post by showing you what the “other” half of Congress looked like to the World as they showed THEIR honor for the President (current holder of the most powerful office on Earth), the hallowed Hall of legislation which is the most important legislative room in the World, AND the life of a “lifer” Senior Chief William “Ryan” Owens that he gladly gave in the service of the country and the people he loved and so proudly served which includes the “other” half of Congress sitting on their rears, ignoring the President and arrogantly putting their petty political correctness ahead of giving honor to a dead American hero.

I am embarrassed today to be an American.  No, I am embarrassed today that “THEY” are Americans.
