Saturday Bullet Points: March 16, 2024

I cannot remember a time when the United States has been so divided and, therefore, dealing with so many potential “rifts” between liberals (“leftists”) and conservatives. It seems that everything discussed regarding legislation divides those in the conversation. Instead of discussing — both speaking and listening — to others, everyone seems locked into a specific corner full of those who back their thoughts while screaming at all others who disagree. The House bill passed in a largely bipartisan fashion that will “ban” the social app TikTok from the entire nation. This is the best example of how split Americans find themselves regarding everything in government.

One frequent visitor to TruthNewsNet.org is adamant that House Speaker Mike Johnson’s support of the bill to ban TikTok proves that he is a “turncoat RINO that wants to allow the Biden Administration to take over all the rules of social media sites unilaterally — not just TikTok. I’ve received a handful of desperate messages “pushing” me to take to the internet and lash out at any conservative who agrees with adopting that House bill.

I’ve read the list that shows state-by-state votes cast in the House about the bill. I know how each voted. The bill passed a bipartisan 352-65 vote, requiring the app to part ways with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, within 180 days or face a ban in American app stores. Those results expose some nasty conclusions that prove how divided our government is.

We’ll look at the pending banning of TikTok in today’s Bullet Points. No matter which side of this controversy you find yourself on, remember: this is politics. And politics — everything to do with politics — is no perfect science!

Bullet Points

  • Why are so many good conservatives so divided on TikTok? The answers to that question are in abundance across the nation. And I’ve never seen so many conservatives with their heels dug so deep on any single issue. One outlet better explained — at least to my understanding — how each side feels so opposite of those on the other side. A conservative online news outlet — Swamp Digest — published a piece explaining the dilemma. For complete details, click on this link:
  • The bill to ban TikTok dramatically passed the House. Any piece of legislation must pass both the House and then the Senate. If successful, the bill goes to the White House for presidential acceptance by signing it into law or taking no action. It’s unclear if the Senate will take up the bill to consider adopting it. However, President Biden said he would sign the bill into law if it passes the House. Conventional wisdom is that conservative ideas are often dead in either or both Houses of Congress. However, in the House, the bill passed in dramatic fashion. Who knows what will happen in the Senate? However, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) made it clear on Friday that he would NOT support it. He doubts it will even be approved for consideration on the floor! For complete details, click on this link:
  • While considering which side of the “Ban TikTok” crowd you stand with, it’s likely that no matter the outcome, not much will change regardless of this outcome. Far too often, Congress considers and votes on legislation to soothe the majority of its constituents, not because of politicians’ thoughts. After all, it’s all about politics, isn’t it? One former member of Congress weighed in with thoughts of whether he would vote on the matter if he were in Congress. Besides what minimal changes might be the outcome for the Chinese app’s use in the U.S., thoughts probably would be slight. For complete details, click on this link:
  • Many older American voters are suspicious of the government banning TikTok and other social media sites. They are worried about the Rule of Law and our First Amendment and prohibit any free speech by the government should not stand. Both sides of this issue have significant support. And the opinions seem to be almost evenly split. What will happen and how will it matter:

  • I guess every American — along with every Israeli — is finding out exactly how the head of the U.S. Democrat Party feels about the Israeli people and the Jewish nation. Our leader — Joe Biden — has finally shown the World his true stripes. He applauded an abrasive attack speech on Israel and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, calling on the Israeli people to call for an election to oust the PM. That abrasive speech was given by the U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, who happens to be Jewish! Both of these Americans have “publicly” supported Israel for decades. I wonder what made them suddenly become Antisemites? For complete details, click on this link:
  • We all watch as the war by Big Tech on conservative Americans continues to escalate — especially in social media. The First Amendment always gets in the way during conversations between U.S. House Republicans as they conduct hearings with social media officials. But it’s not just Big Tech itself — it’s at the behest of members of the Biden Administration’s intelligence officials. It’s become so vile and wild that the U.S. Supreme Court weighed in regarding a case resulting from Supreme Court Justices who try to block “haters” who bombard the justices with hate speech and even veiled threats. In a unanimous decision, the Court permitted the justices to block the hate speech as long as the posters were NOT government members! For complete details, click on this link:
  • The judge in the Trump trial in Atlanta dropped a bomb on the District Attorney, Fani Willis, with his finding regarding the personal actions of Willis with her lover and her appointee to head the Trump prosecution. Many expected the judge to disqualify Fani and either turn the case over to a new prosecutor. Others felt this soap opera might even result in the termination of the trial altogether. Judge McAfee’s finding, while allowing Willis to remain in her spot, she could NOT keep her lover on the case with her. Many legal scholars think there are still serious issues with Willis’ case and may force them to drop it. For complete details, watch this video:

  • If rumors on Capitol Hill about a possible continuing resolution that would give the Department of Homeland Security funding at its current level until the end of the year, House Speaker Mike Johnson may find his House Speakership job in his rearview mirror. Johnson has continually demanded there will be no new funding bills unless the Southern Border security measures include securing the border along with measures to start at least a massive reduction of illegals flooding across the border. However, it’s not looking good today for the Speaker. For complete details, click on this link:
  • Isn’t it tragic to watch the United States’s two-tiered justice system in action? Do you remember all the Democrats who ignored Congressional subpoenas in recent years and were never held accountable for those legal violations? Compare those to Republicans Peter Navarro, Steve Bannon of the Trump Administration, and Lt. General Mike Flynn. Flynn cut a deal. Navarro and Bannon are facing jail time. Obama Attorney General Eric Holder thumbed his nose at Congressional GOPs and was never worried about a jail cell. Navarro — the latest Republican who’s just been told to report to prison has asked the SCOTUS to allow him to remain out of jail while his case is under appeal. • We knew it was inevitable. With the explosion of evil in Haiti, most Americans expected Haitian refugees would begin to flood into the United States using boats to make the 80-mile trek to South Florida. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis readied his National Guard along South Florida beaches, waiting for the mass of Haitians to find their way to the Sunshine State. DeSantis was not wrong. The first boat holding 24 Haitian refugees showed up in Florida on Friday. What will happen next? Most Americans feel confident Biden will again ignore U.S. law and wave them ashore to join their fellow illegals to bask in the grandeur of Biden and Mayorkas’ “free vacation” with all the frills one can imagine.
